Altar (The reparation of man), 2016, 24”x36”
Suspended above a circular base that used to be a machine gun turret on a now defunct military base in San Pedro, California (perched atop the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean). This object is bathed in the light of a full moon, with Catalina Island floating in the distance like a planet all of its own. This altar was built by Rya Kleinpeter and myself. War is without a doubt, where man's most violent tendencies are their most unchecked. It's also a symptom of most historically patriarchal societies. We photographed this altar at 2 AM beneath the light of the full moon and its feminine energy (working under the same theory as charging a crystal). This architectural structure isn't just a monument to man's atrocities, but also a conduit for healing.
